Cave
Bear's (Ursus spelaeus) bones were found in many
caves all over the Europe. It was a big bear wich lived
during Pleistocene and became extincted near
20.000/18.000 years ago, for unknown reasons.
The morphology and etology of
these bears are very well understood by scientists thanks to the
large amount of findings coming
from the european caves.
It
was a very big bear: a big male could reach 800 Kilos.
Althought it belonged to the group of Carnivorous it was
adapted to a quite complete vegetarian diet. He
stayed in the caves during the winter in hibernation.
In
the
Caverna Generosa more than 40.000 cave bear's bones were
found.
